PROF. DR. MARY OBODAI (GHANA)

Dr. Obodai is a retired Director/Chief Research Scientist at Ghana CSIR Food Research Institute. She obtained her Ph.D. in Food Sciences (Food Microbiology Option) from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. She also has a Certificate in Business Administration from Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

She is a Food Scientist specializing in Food Microbiology. Her research includes, amongst others, molecular characterization of microorganisms in fermented African Foods and mushroom Biotechnology, where she has worked on various aspects such as taxonomy, production of secondary metabolites, utilization and processing, mushroom preservation, and food product development. She has over 20 years of research and development experience in technology development, dissemination, and consultancy service and has contributed significantly to improvements in household and national food and nutrition security. She is responsible for initiating some international collaborative projects funded by Agencies such as USAID, Africa-Brazil Marketplace, EU, and the World Bank. Dr. Obodai was awarded an African Women in Agricultural Research and Development Fellow from 2010 to 2912. She is currently the Science Coordinator for the CSIR Mentorship Programme.
